BenQ Professional Displays: Your Best Partner
My name is Su Hang. As a photographer, I have worked with images for many years. At first, photography was just a hobby. I quickly built a reputation within the photography community with a basic knowledge in and talent for art and later became a professional photographer, specializing in commercial portraits. I love to travel. I have visited over forty countries and often received assignments from various travel bureaus and magazines to shoot travel-related material. My career as a photographer is closely linked to my life. Photography is an art. Art stems from and extends beyond life. We shape our careers from our life and enjoy life through our careers. This is the fundamental pursuit of life. I am proud that I work in a profession I enjoy.
In an era of remarkable and rapid development in digital camera technology, a photographer should not only possess the knowledge of composing images through a viewfinder, but also have a sound understanding of processing images with a computer. High technology and digital techniques have expanded the creative field for photographers. A good picture requires three indispensable steps, specifically preparation, meeting the right people in the right place at the right time, and post-editing. Hardware and equipment are the decisive components in all three stages. Therefore, I am extremely demanding when it comes to photographing equipment. Capturing pictures on a camera is only half the work of a photographer. Post-editing images are just as important as shooting them.
During the period of film photography, photographers used film to take pictures. If they did not develop their films, they would never see the end product. In the digital age, the “darkroom” used to develop photos are now our computers. Cameras only truthfully capture scenes, and post-editing is required to fully convey the photographer’s artistic vision. The demonstration of color and processing of details to enhance visual impact are directly associated with the effects that the image would eventually achieve. Therefore, an outstanding computer display is essential for photographers.
The BenQ SW2700PT is tailored for photographers, and features a professional color management mode. Color correctness and reproducibility are vital in the creation of profound images. In the past, a color calibrator coupled with software is required to calibrate the color of computer displays. This “soft calibration” limits the potential of graphics cards through software. By comparison, the SW2700PT display is equipped with an onboard hardware calibration chip dedicated for color correction. The product uses BenQ’s exclusive Palette Master Element color correction software to store all the color correction data on the onboard chip. This process maximizes the potential of the graphics card and enhances the operating speed of the computer. It undoubtedly makes post-editing much more efficient.
The aspect ratio of the SW2700PT display is 16:9 with a resolution of 2560×1440. It achieves a 99% Adobe RGB coverage to present breathtaking images. The sheer broadness in color spectrum is simply incredible, and the color and details are incomparable.
The accompanying OSD controller allows users to conveniently and rapidly switch between display functions. The default for Button 1 is the Adobe RGB mode. I mentioned earlier that the SW2700PT display achieves a 99% Adobe RGB coverage. Using this mode to view web pages and images provides the best visual experience, making every image a visual masterpiece. The default for Button 2 is the sRGB mode. This is the go-to mode for editing images with Photoshop. After all, the majority of publishers and clients use this mode when viewing images on their computers. This mode reduces color biases. The default for Button 3 is the B/W mode. This mode caught my attention because it is the first time I’ve ever seen this mode on a display. In fact, images are often more profound in black and white than color. With this function, users can conveniently and quickly preview their images in black and white without the additional application of software. This greatly enhances the proficiency and conceptualization of artistic post-editing. I find it extremely useful.
The hood that accompanies the SW2700PT display undoubtedly adds to the professionalism of the product. Hoods are an integral part of post-editing. They protect the monitor from the influences of environmental color temperature, provide photographers with the most accurate color, and reduce color bias.
